WHERE DOES THE HUMMINGBIRD REST, IF THERE IS NO FOREST?
A mysterious black Cuboid, a nod perhaps to a monolith, sits low on the ground to give the viewer an overhead perspective. Irregular shapes for the video screens carved from its surface seem to mimic tree-rings, or the rippling pattern of waves in the water. A thin line, an “ant trail”, crawls along the perimeter of the central shapes – all video collages composed by the artist. These high tech objects work with a rechargeable battery, a cable-free display that is a novelty in the field of Videosculpture. The form of the object is inspired by a popular form in modernism – the cube – open to two sides it refers to domestic furniture, reminding of the famous Ulmer stool by Max Bill.
