SEEDS OF LIFE #1, THE OPPOSITE HOUSE, BEIJING

The big and dramatic atrium space of the Opposite House in Beijing invited Loher to create a universe that consisted of five Videoplanets, one for each element - Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.

The collaboration was based on meeting Beijing-based contemporary artists and Katja Loher was working with dancers and co-created the choreography and movements with them for the opening performance.

 
 
 
Part of the Art Program „Encounters Across Cultures 2019 A collaboration with Feng Shui Master Thierry Chow Videoclip directed, filmed and edited by Tampopo Studio, Sai Ma, produced by Zandie Brocket Staying at the Houses and encountering local artists and creators in each city, artist Katja Loher’s over-arching concept is inspired by the Chinese theory of the Five Elements. Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water form a comprehensive template that organizes all natural phenomena into a universal order underlying all things in our world, its ancient patterns of creation and destruction having great relevance to the environmental questions affecting us all today.

CHOREOGRAPHY

WITH CHINESE DANCERS

 

The choreographed dance in the bird’s eye view is inspired by Chinese martial art, Tai chi, Qi Gong and Kung Fu, and how they relate to the 5 elements.
